Adelaide’s Upcoming Festival’s Still This Year

Adelaide is often called the festival city for a reason. From the glowing light trails of Illuminate to the month-long celebrations of OzAsia and Feast, here is your guide to the best upcoming cultural events that fit a student budget.

Living in Adelaide means you are never short of something to do. Whether you are looking for free outdoor installations or affordable gallery seats, the city’s festival calendar has plenty of options for a student budget.

Here are five upcoming cultural events to keep on your radar.

Illuminate Adelaide

1 July – 19 July

This winter festival transforms the CBD with light installations, immersive art, and electronic music. Most of the major light trails, like City Lights, are free to wander through. It is a great way to explore North Terrace and the Riverbank precinct during the mid-year break.

OzAsia Festival

October

Based at the Adelaide Festival Centre, OzAsia is Australia’s top contemporary arts festival focused on Asian culture. You can find a mix of theatre, dance, and music. The Lucky Dumpling Market is a highlight for affordable street food and free live entertainment by the river.

Adelaide International Jazz Festival

8 October – 18 October

This festival brings live jazz to various central venues. The program covers everything from classic swing to modern experimental sets. Many performances are priced specifically to be accessible, making it an easy way to catch world-class musicians without overspending.

Adelaide Film Festival

14 October – 25 October

Happening every two years, this festival showcases new Australian cinema alongside international documentaries and shorts. Tickets for students usually sit between $15 and $30. It is a solid alternative to the standard multiplex experience if you want to see something more experimental.

Feast Festival

November

Known as “Pridevember,” Feast is Adelaide’s queer arts and cultural festival. It features a month of cabaret, comedy, and community talks throughout the CBD and inner suburbs. Events range from free community gatherings to ticketed shows, focusing on diversity and inclusivity across the city.
